Elk Grove, Ca

Elk Grove was founded in 1850 as a stage stop. It is located about 15 miles (24 km) south of historic Sutter’s Fort and thus became a crossroads for business, entertainment, mail service and agriculture, and acted as home base for gold miners in nearby communities. After it played its part in the early gold rush and statehood history in California, a close-knit community evolved with a distinctly rural and western lifestyle.Initially, the town developed around a stage stop on the Monterey Trail, though after the railroad passed by east of town, Elk Grove's center shifted to its present location. "Old Town" Elk Grove is located about a mile east of State Route 99 (formerly U.S. Route 99, the north-south artery of the California Central Valley). Although the town developed around agriculture, it would eventually become a residential suburb of Sacramento. Most newer housing developments in Elk Grove lie west between Highway 99 and Interstate 5, the major north-south highway for the U.S. West Coast, in two areas locally called "Laguna Creek" and "Laguna West".On July 1, 2000, Elk Grove incorporated as a city.

Originally called Mayhew's Crossing and Hangtown Crossing (circa 1855) during the Gold Rush era, the area was renamed Mayhew Station and Mills Station (circa 1900), respectively.[3] The city itself was named after the Cordova Vineyard, which was located in the center of the Rancho Rio de los Americanos land grant. Original names of the town included Cordova Vineyards and Cordova Village, before it was officially named Rancho Cordova when a post office was established in the community in 1955.[4] In the Gold Rush era of mid 19th century California, certain Placer mining activities took place in the Rancho Cordova environs, some traces of which disturbance are extant. The elevation of the generally level terrain is approximately 118 feet (36 m) above mean sea level.[5] Lone Star Gravel Company and other companies have historically extracted younger gravels at depths of 30 to 40 feet (12 m) without encountering groundwater, which is characteristically found at about 100 feet (30 m). Partially confined groundwater generally flows to the southwest.[6]

South San Francisco

South San Francisco

Click here to see all homes for sale in South San Francisco

In the early Nineties when the first houses were built in South San Francisco, the only road were the old San Bruno Toll Road, which was nothing but a dust and mud trail, and a similar connection with El Camino Real at Baden. For rail transportation there was a Southern Pacific station and an electric car line which reheaded only to Holy Cross Cemetery. With overland facilities being developed, water transportation played an important role, as Swift had expected it would. The wharf at the Swift Plant served not only to handle cattle and sheep for the slaughter pens but freight and passengers for the town as well. Small steamers made regular trips from San Francisco and special excursion boats brought prospective buyers of industrial and residential sites. Today modern Bayshore Highway and nearby airports place South San Francisco close to the most up to date kinds of transportation.

Natomas is a community in northwestern Sacramento, California. It is the last area of Sacramento that has not been fully developed, and has seen major residential development in the 1990s and 2000s.
